The James Elson Studentship provides an outstanding candidate with fees and a stipend to undertake a three year PhD research project relating to applications of computer science in a specific area of research.
This studentship is funded by, and dedicated to the memory of James Elson who passed away in 2012 after a long, brave battle with cancer. Despite his early death he achieved a great deal in his short life. James was dyslexic but through determination and hard work he achieved a first class MEng degree in Computer Science at The University of 水多多导航. James went on to have a very successful career at JPMorgan Chase.
This fully funded studentship includes:- Tuition fees at the international rate
- Annual maintenance stipend equivalent to UKRI minimum stipend rate

Academic requirements
Candidates must at a minimum satisfy the academic requirements for entry onto PhD programmes within the Department of Computer Science.
However, this is a highly competitive studentship and therefore both the supervisor and the final PGR interview panel will be looking for聽the candidate who can best demonstrate聽evidence of聽their potential to undertake their selected research project and to successfully complete the doctoral programme to the standard necessary to qualify for a PhD.

Candidates will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of academic quality and their preparedness for their chosen project as evidenced in their application. References and supervisor support will also be sought when shortlisting.
